My partner was taken to a local hospital from her workplace. She complained she wasn’t feeling well, had severe headache, vomited and then passed out. She had numbness and tingling in her left arm. Once at the hospital she saw a triage nurse and then was placed in a hallway for more than 2 hours! When she finally got back to an ER room she saw a doctor immediately who examined her and noted the weakness on the left side of her face, arm and leg. He ordered a CT scan. When the results (a couple more hours) came back he said it appeared that she had a small stroke. When asked if there was any medication that could be given, he said that the window of time was gone. They are now recommending 1-2 weeks of inpatient physical therapy.
Does this appear to be negligence on the part of the hospital? Everything I have read about strokes indicate that immediate care should be given. Who would we talk to about this? What course of action is available?
Is there new Nursing Home Rules about not putting up bed rails and using seat belts in wheel chairs?

Recently I have picked up two nursing home patients and taken them to the ER because of broken noses and lacerations after falling on their faces. One because the bed rails were not used and neither were the floor pads. The second because they did not seat belt her in to her wheel chair. I was told there was a new rule stating they can not use those any longer because it amounts to entrapment. ?? So its ok for the patient to fall on their face every other day and visit the ER. Where the hell is the logic in that?

I’m graduating spring of ‘09 and i’m going to a community college for my ADN or BSN. Financially I could use some assistance. I’m looking into a program that offers to reimburse me my full tuition costs if i can work a year at an HAC hospital then take my courses through a local college while working for them. Undecided, i’m still looking at possibly getting a grant or two. Does anyone know how i could find out information on getting a grant?

My 7 week old 6 week premature daughter died on halloween. On the 29th I had called her doctor and told her my daughter had a fever of 99.7 she had diarrhea and vomiting her doctor told me to take her to the emergency room. We did and when we got there they prety much did nothing but take her temp her vitals give her some tylenol and discharged me with instructions to alternate tylenol& motrin& keep her uncovered or lightly.I saw the doctor only once she came in listened to her chest said she sounded fine then some people said the mental health clinic wanted to speak with her.She left saying she would be back & gave instructions to the nurse to take a urine sample. She never came back. the nurse tried to get a urine sample in a bag but the diarrhea contaminated the sample. she said she would see what the doctor wanted to do about it then she came back and discharged me. she died the next night.I feel like it was negligence on there part they should have had more concern for an 8lb baby
