i’m still in high school, but i’d like to become a nurse, specializing in pediatrics. i can handle the gruesome stuff and accept that death will be a big part of the job.
however, i recently talked to a friend’s sister, who is a nurse, but hates her job. she said that all you do is clean up people’s crap, and that office politics is absolutely brutal (she told me a story about some other nurse’s negligence costing a life then marking it down as a “natural death.” ) she also told me that if something happens to the patient, it’ll be mostly the nurse’s fault because they’re supposed to be fully informed about the patient’s history and everything, even if it was due to medication the doctor’s prescribed.
i thought part of the “good” thing about being a nurse was that it wouldn’t be their responsibility because they’re only carrying out the doctor’s orders..
so now i’m beginning to question everything..
i mean, there’s depressing stuff, watching kids die..but doesn’t the good outweigh the bad? you’re helping to heal some of these people too…
but if you do it day in and day out….
would it just get tirelessly depressing and boring??
i’ve wanted to become a nurse ever since my little brother stayed at sick kids hospital, if i don’t do this..i’m not sure what else i can do..
what do you think?

I was informed that they have grants out there that will kelp a family get nursing care for a loved one full time in the home so they dont have to live out their time or rehab in a nursing home. my grandmother hals little info on this matter and would like my grandfather back home. this grant would allow CNA and nurses to come to the home fulltime o help him. the nurseing home he is in he is getting worst not better. he does well at home. but we also do what needs to be done. i am not bashing CNA or nurses since i am one but they are not helping. so any info about grants offered for home health care would be gladly welcomed. dont leave rude remarks show the same respect i would show you. thank you and bell you and your family. hope no one has to deal with this

I’m a girl scout, and part of a badge I’m doing requires me to create a “communication” between me and someone at a nursing home. SInce I don’t know anyone in a nursing home, and my friends don’t either… I asked my teacher. She had mentioned her grandfather before. She said “sure, he’d like that”. I want to know, what do I write to him about!!?? My teacher visits him once a week, every week, and therefore will be bringing him his letters, and he may write back! He’s 80 something, diabetic, and has 1 leg amputated, so he’s in a wheel chair. What do I write to him?? ANY IDEAS??!

My partner was taken to a local hospital from her workplace. She complained she wasn’t feeling well, had severe headache, vomited and then passed out. She had numbness and tingling in her left arm. Once at the hospital she saw a triage nurse and then was placed in a hallway for more than 2 hours! When she finally got back to an ER room she saw a doctor immediately who examined her and noted the weakness on the left side of her face, arm and leg. He ordered a CT scan. When the results (a couple more hours) came back he said it appeared that she had a small stroke. When asked if there was any medication that could be given, he said that the window of time was gone. They are now recommending 1-2 weeks of inpatient physical therapy.

Does this appear to be negligence on the part of the hospital? Everything I have read about strokes indicate that immediate care should be given. Who would we talk to about this? What course of action is available?

My wife and I are considering conception, and we’re wondering how expensive our little bundle of joy will be before arrival.

We’re financially comfortable, so we’re wondering where we should set the target for savings in order to cover expenses in preparation for the little one.

I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 1850/month (diapers, clothes, medical, etc) after s/he’s born and about 6000 for preparations (crib, bassinette, nursing chair, changing table, and on and on)
